Borehole Video Investigation & Well Scoping
Community Public Water Supply – Western Pennsylvania
Highland Geosciences LLC provided hydrogeologic services in support of a Level 2 Assessment for a community public water supply well serving multiple lodge facilities in Western Pennsylvania.
Scope of services included coordination with the client, project team, and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) Safe Drinking Water Program regarding scheduling and project requirements associated with the borehole video investigation. Highland also reviewed available background information and groundwater records relevant to the water supply well prior to field activities.
Highland mobilized to the Site and conducted a downhole borehole video investigation under the direct supervision of our Pennsylvania Licensed Professional Geologist. The well scoping evaluation focused on documenting the condition of the protective steel casing, borehole conditions, and visible well infrastructure components associated with the groundwater supply system. Field observations and notes were collected throughout the investigation to support documentation of existing conditions.
Following completion of field activities, Highland digitized and archived the borehole video inspection records and prepared digital copies of the inspection for project documentation and client review. Highland also evaluated potential limitations associated with existing pumping equipment and coordinated contingency planning for possible pump removal and reinstallation activities if required to complete the inspection.
Services were performed in support of the public water supply assessment process and provided the project team with detailed visual documentation of subsurface well conditions to assist with ongoing evaluation and decision-making regarding the groundwater supply system.

Groundwater Abatement & Nitrate Remediation Support
Pennsylvania Landfill Facility – Northeast Pennsylvania
Highland Geosciences LLC provided hydrogeologic services in support of a PADEP-approved groundwater abatement plan addressing nitrate impacts at a permitted municipal waste landfill facility.
Scope of services included preparation and submission of a pre-drilling plan to PADEP, oversight of investigation and compliance well installations, preparation of lithologic and well construction logs, and coordination of drilling contractor activities.
Highland conducted monthly groundwater sampling on newly installed abatement wells and impacted monitoring wells. Field parameters, including oxidation-reduction potential (ORP), dissolved oxygen, specific conductivity, temperature, and pH, were collected to support remediation design. Laboratory analytical results were reviewed and compiled to evaluate nitrate distribution and groundwater chemistry trends. Groundwater characterization data was used to isolate impacted zones and support the evaluation of denitrification technologies. Highland coordinated with remediation contractors and regulatory agencies regarding potential groundwater remediation activities. Services were performed in accordance with Pennsylvania regulatory requirements for landfill groundwater abatement.

Well Rehabilitation & Hydrogeologic Performance Testing
Community Public Water Supply – Western Pennsylvania
Highland Geosciences LLC provided hydrogeologic services in support of the rehabilitation and redevelopment of two municipal groundwater production wells. Services were performed in accordance with Pennsylvania public water supply regulatory requirements.
Scope of services included preparation and sealing of Public Water Supply permitting documentation, development of a detailed work plan, overseeing pre- and post-rehabilitation borehole video inspections, and multi-step pumping tests conducted at rates up to 300 gallons per minute.
Continuous drawdown data were collected using pressure transducers with manual verification measurements. Simultaneous monitoring of adjacent wells was conducted during performance testing. Field parameters, including pH, turbidity, temperature, and specific conductance, were monitored throughout testing and cleaning operations. Verification of acid neutralization prior to purging from the wells was performed. Laboratory analyses were collected for PADEP Secondary Maximum Contaminant Level parameters. Hydrogeologic analysis included development of hydrographs, calculation of specific capacity, evaluation of well loss, and assessment of aquifer response. A comprehensive report documented rehabilitation effectiveness and provided operational recommendations.

Public Water Supply Application
Pennsylvania – Confidential Location
Highland Geosciences LLC provided hydrogeologic services in support of the development, compilation, and submission of a Transient Non-Community (TNC) Public Water Supply Application for a proposed system in Pennsylvania.
Scope of services included coordination with the project team to gather required system design components and supporting documentation necessary for application development. Highland worked directly with regulatory agencies to confirm application requirements and ensure the submission would meet administrative completeness standards.
Highland reviewed, edited, and compiled all project information into a complete TNC Public Water Supply Application package for submission to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP). A draft application was provided for client review prior to finalization. Highland submitted the complete application to PADEP for review and approval to construct. Services were performed in accordance with Pennsylvania public water supply regulatory requirements, with a focus on ensuring an efficient review process and minimizing potential delays associated with incomplete or non-compliant submissions.
